## Problem
I use Tolaria as my primary knowledge base and keep daily journal notes
(one note per day, e.g.
Journal/2026-10-25.md
with
type: Journal
).
Tolaria lists them as filtered notes, but there is no chronological,
day-grouped reading view. Reading back a week or a month means opening
notes one by one.
## Proposal
A built-in "Journal" view mode that renders notes of a configurable type
(default
Journal
) as a timeline:
  • grouped by day, newest first, with date headers
  • each day shows the note title plus the first lines (expandable to the full note)
  • "load older" / infinite scroll
  • date-range filter (this week / this month / custom range)
  • configurable note type and date source (filename pattern or frontmatter date)
This is deliberately a presentation feature, not auto-creation: no templates,
no task rollover, no calendar sync. Notes stay plain Markdown with frontmatter.
## Why not via an agent
An agent can create a daily note, but it cannot provide a persistent,
always-available reading surface inside the app. The view is what makes a
journal usable day to day, and it stays useful without AI.
## Prior art
Logseq journals, Obsidian daily notes plus calendar plugins, Craft daily notes.
## Notes
  • Saved views (
    views/*.yml
) are a good starting point, but a timeline needs
a dedicated renderer because it groups multiple notes under one day.
  • Could be implemented as a built-in view type or as
    _display: timeline
    .
