Support custom non-Markdown note formats, including canvas files
Source GitHub issue: #1067
Reporter: am2222 (Majid Hojati)
## Original request
The reporter asks for Tolaria to support notes/files that are not
.md
, especially visual canvas-style formats such as tldraw or similar tools.
## Product framing
Tolaria is files-first and markdown-first today, but some users keep visual or structured knowledge artifacts alongside their notes. This request is for first-class handling of custom/non-Markdown note formats so those files can participate in the vault experience instead of only existing as external attachments.
## Context from the report
  • Desired examples include canvas-style formats such as tldraw.
  • The request is a product capability / format-support improvement, not a shipped-behavior bug.
  • Specific libraries or implementations mentioned by the reporter are non-binding context only.
## Notes for prioritization
Adjacent Canny posts cover specific surfaces such as Typst preview,
.log
viewing, Excalidraw support, and Tolaria whiteboards. This post tracks the broader user-facing capability of supporting custom/non-Markdown note formats, with canvas formats as the motivating example.
